The new Google chrome browser seems to work okay here..still messing with stuff.
Use it where it makes the website easier to use, but also when someone has java script disabled it should not be broken.
well currently the site is 100% usable without JS . . . except for IE users, hopefully the CSS dropdowns will work propery in IE8.
I'm usually in favor of unobtrusive scripting that makes things easier to use. However, make sure that everything is still equally usable for those who have scripting disabled. There are few things on the web that annoy me more than forms that require complex scripting to even type into, let alone submit, or navigation that simply cannot be accesssed without scripting. Those rank right up there with popup windows, looping background music, animated cursors, and Flash splash pages. :P
I don't trust JS, my browser usually blocks it anyway, so whenever some sites use it, I have to consider the value...
Use it as sparingly as possible :)
Cheers
AJAX everywhere!
I think sticking to JavaScript niceties to make existing functionality better/easier/etc. would be better than trying to deal anything with XMLHttpRequest (i.e. AJAX), which I consider unnecessary for CurseForge.
i already have curseforge on my noscript whitelist, do what you will!
Dashkal, I agree, however I think there may be places where javascript may be able to aid in navigation.
For all of this site's simplicity in places it's incredibly content dense in others. One of my biggest goals over the next few months is to make that content more accessible.
AJAX is good anywhere of course! Look at big brother sourceforge
